The Not Quite Yet: On the Margins of Technology

Organised by SPACE media in February 2008, the programme of activity explored older people’s involvement in the future design processes of technology

It featured:

  • New commissioned of artwork by Stacy Makishi, Lorraine Leeson and Manu Luksch & Mukul Patel
  • An exhibition at SPACE including teh commissions and the work of Lois Weaver
  • A series of artists workshops
  • ‘On the margins of Technology’ symposium day realising the impacts of technology for expanding and diversifying participation in art and society.

The work has been followed up with co-pilot.net a shared online resource for people working with art, technology and social change. Come and add your thoughts!

‘Long Table’ discussion on Technology and Democracy

A pre-exhibition event on Wednesday 23rd January 6pm - 8pm

The ‘Long Table’ discussion is an open public event and we invite you all to come along and give your views, contribute to the discussion and to the exhibition itself.

Introduced by Lois Weaver, the Long Table is an experimental public forum. A hybrid performance installation-roundtable discussion-dinner party designed to facilitate informal conversations on serious topics.

Previous Long Tables include conversations on Women and Prisons, Human Rights and Performance, Manufacturing Bodies and Violence And The Politics Of Representations held in London, Rio d Janeiro, Vienna and Buenos Aires.

Lois Weaver is a performance artist, director, writer, teacher and curator with thirty years professional experience. She was co-founder of Spiderwoman Theatre and the WOW Theatre in New York and Artistic Director of Gay Sweatshop Theatre in London. She has been a performer, director, and writer with the Split Britches Company since 1980. Her interests include performance and human rights and performance and technology. Lois was Director for PSi12 Performing Rights, an international conference on the themes of performance and human rights.

An exhibition of new work by Manu Luksch & Mukul Patel, Loraine Leeson, Stacy Makishi and Lois Weaver. The artists respond to research with groups of older people in East London and ask how the UK’s ‘ageing’ population can engage with future design processes of Technology.
